Introducing Focus Sessions & Hardcore Mode: Uncompromising Discipline for Deep Work

We’ve all been there. You sit down to complete an important project, study, or write code. You have a solid schedule configured in your site blocker. But then, a sudden moment of weakness hits. You tell yourself, "I’ll just check this one link real quick," and you find yourself opening the extension dashboard to disable or remove the rule "just for five minutes."

Recurring hourly schedules are fantastic for passive discipline, but they can't always protect you from active, short-term impulses. When willpower completely fails, you need an external system to stay on track. That is exactly why we created Focus Sessions and the unescapable Hardcore Mode in BlockDistraction.

Here is a detailed breakdown of how this productivity feature works and how it helps you stay focused across desktop and mobile devices.

What Happens During a Focus Session?

A Focus Session is an active sprint of dedicated work. Instead of waiting for your scheduled blocking rules to become active, you intentionally start a focused browsing session when it is time to perform.

Once you hit the Start button in the popup panel, BlockDistraction immediately applies the selected Focus Session behavior:

Focus Sessions do not permanently change your saved rules. When the session ends, BlockDistraction automatically returns to your normal rule configuration and schedules.

Two Ways to Control Your Browsing Environment

Pro users can choose how BlockDistraction should control browsing during a Focus Session.

The Blacklist and Whitelist work together without requiring you to switch the extension into a separate mode. You can continue adding distracting websites to the Blacklist while keeping essential work, study, or communication resources in the Whitelist.

For example, you might allow access to your project management system, documentation, email, and development tools while temporarily blocking the rest of the web. When the Focus Session ends, normal browsing and your regular rule behavior resume automatically.

Going Hardcore: The Ultimate Pro Upgrade

The standard session is incredibly helpful, but what if your habit loops are so strong that you know you will simply click Stop fifteen minutes in? For developers, students, and professionals dealing with intense procrastination, we built Hardcore Mode for Pro accounts.

When you check the Hardcore box before initiating a session, Pro users unlock complete customization from 1 minute up to 240 minutes (4 hours) of continuous deep work. Most importantly, it triggers an absolute lockout:

  1. No Escape Button: The Stop option completely vanishes from the interface. You cannot cancel or pause the session through the normal extension controls.
  2. Core-Level Enforcement: Even if you completely restart your browser or close the application process through a system task manager, the extension recalculates the remaining duration upon startup and restores the active session.
  3. Track Your Successes: Completing a Hardcore sprint or finishing a customized session increments a metric in your Pro Dashboard Statistics panel: Successful Focus Sessions. Watch your completed session count rise as visible proof of your growing focus habit.

Available Across Supported Browsers

Because distraction is not limited to one device or browser, Focus Sessions are available across supported BlockDistraction installations. Whether you are working in a desktop browser or using mobile browsers such as Firefox or Edge on Android, you can start a Focus Session directly from the installed extension.

Your Universal License Key can activate Pro features in supported browsers and devices. Each extension installation operates independently, so a Focus Session must be started on the browser where you want it to run.

Stop negotiating with your impulses. Reclaim those lost hours, finish your tasks on time, and build a stronger deep work routine today.

Also compatible with Opera, Edge, Brave, and Chrome Browser.
