BlockDistraction Support

Find answers to frequently asked questions about installation, permissions, Pro activation, diagnostics, subscription management, and using BlockDistraction on desktop and Android.

The extension isn't blocking sites. How do I fix permissions?

For BlockDistraction to work, it needs permission to read and change data on websites. This permission allows the extension to detect the current website address and apply your blocking or redirect rules.

If the onboarding page did not appear or browser access was removed, enable it manually:

  1. Right-click the BlockDistraction icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. Select "Manage Extension".
  3. Open the "Permissions" or "Site Access" section.
  4. Make sure BlockDistraction is allowed to access websites, usually by selecting "On all sites" or the equivalent option.

Without website access, BlockDistraction cannot apply blocking rules. The extension also checks this permission periodically and may reopen its permission onboarding page if required access has been removed.

Is my browsing data safe? Do you track history?

BlockDistraction does not collect or transmit your browsing history. Website blocking is processed locally in your browser. Your visited website addresses, blocked website addresses, rule contents, redirect URLs, search queries, and passwords are not sent to our analytics server.

Your blocking rules and most extension settings remain on your device or, where applicable, in your browser's own synchronization storage.

BlockDistraction includes optional privacy-preserving technical analytics and anonymous error reporting. This feature is disabled by default and only starts after you explicitly enable it in the extension settings. It does not include browsing activity, rule contents, email addresses, license keys, passwords, raw error messages, or stack traces.

For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

For additional transparency, BlockDistraction is publicly documented through independent technical resources, allowing anyone to review its architecture and browser permissions.

How do I activate Pro features?

Log in to your My Account page to find your unique License Key. Copy it, open the BlockDistraction extension Options, and paste the key into the Pro section. After successful verification, your Pro features will unlock.

I just paid. Where is my License Key and subscription?

Your License Key is generated as part of payment processing and should appear on your Account Dashboard shortly after the purchase is processed. You can use it to activate Pro.

Note: The "Manage Subscription" button and billing details may take 1-2 minutes to appear while we synchronize the transaction with our payment provider. If they are not visible yet, refresh the page after a few minutes.

Does it work on Opera, Edge, or Brave?

Yes. BlockDistraction supports major Chromium-based desktop browsers including Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera.

  • Microsoft Edge: Install BlockDistraction from Microsoft Edge Add-ons. The Universal Pro License also works with the Edge version.
  • Brave and Opera: You can install the Chrome version where the browser supports Chrome Web Store extensions.

Browser interfaces and extension support can differ slightly between platforms, but the same BlockDistraction license can be used across supported browsers.

How do I use BlockDistraction on Android?

BlockDistraction works on Android with supported browsers that provide browser extension support:

  • Firefox for Android: Install BlockDistraction from Mozilla Add-ons. Firefox Focus does not support the extension.
  • Microsoft Edge with Extensions on Android: Install BlockDistraction through Microsoft Edge's supported extension interface.

Tip: Extension settings are usually available through the browser's Extensions or Add-ons menu.

Does the Pro license cover all my devices?

Yes. With the Universal License, the same BlockDistraction Pro key can be used across supported desktop browsers and supported Android browsers. This includes Chrome, Firefox and Edge on desktop, plus supported Firefox and Microsoft Edge versions on Android.

How can I manage or cancel my subscription?

You can manage your plan, update payment methods, or cancel recurring billing from your My Account page. Click the "Open Customer Portal" or subscription management button to open the secure Paddle billing portal.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on purchases covered by our refund policy. If you are not satisfied, contact support within 14 days of payment to request a refund.

You can read the full details on our Refund Policy page.

Can I change my subscription plan, for example from Monthly to Annual?

Yes. You can manage available subscription changes through your BlockDistraction account and Paddle Customer Portal.

To do this:

  1. Go to the My Account page.
  2. Scroll to the subscription details section.
  3. Click the "Manage Subscription / Change Plan" button or the available customer portal button.

You will be redirected to a secure page provided by Paddle. Available plan changes, billing adjustments, and any applicable prorating are shown there before you confirm the change.

Why does a blocked site briefly open on Firefox Mobile?

On Firefox for Android, a blocked website may briefly begin navigating before BlockDistraction redirects or blocks it. This is related to differences in how Firefox Mobile handles extension navigation and blocking.

BlockDistraction still applies the configured rule, but a brief visual flash can sometimes occur before the browser completes the block or redirect. This behavior is generally not seen in the same way on desktop browsers.

How do I create a Diagnostic Report?

Open the BlockDistraction Settings page and find the Diagnostics section. You can generate a technical report containing information useful for troubleshooting, such as the extension version, permission state, rule counts, Declarative Net Request status, Focus Session state, and other technical status information.

You can Copy Report or Export JSON and send it to support if needed.

Generating a report does not automatically send anything to us. The report remains on your device until you choose to copy, export, or share it.

The diagnostic report is designed not to include your rule addresses, browsing history, license key, email address, password, or other private rule contents.

How do I enable and use Debug Mode?

Debug Mode is a Pro troubleshooting feature. When enabled, BlockDistraction can retain a limited local history of structured technical events that can help diagnose extension problems.

To enable it, open the Settings page and turn on Debug Mode. Diagnostic event history remains stored locally on your device and can be included in the diagnostic tools when troubleshooting.

Debug Mode and technical analytics are separate features. Enabling Debug Mode does not enable telemetry or give consent to send technical analytics.

You can clear the locally stored diagnostic history from the Diagnostics section at any time.
