How to Password-Protect a Website Blocker
Blocking a distracting website is easy. Keeping the rule in place when you are tempted to disable it can be harder. Password Protection adds friction at that exact moment by requiring a password before selected BlockDistraction settings can be changed.

What Password Protection Is Designed to Do
Password Protection protects sensitive actions inside the extension. Depending on the action, BlockDistraction can ask for the password before allowing you to remove a rule, clear statistics, change protected settings or sign out of Pro mode.

How to Enable Password Protection
- Activate BlockDistraction Pro with your Universal License Key.
- Open the extension's full settings page.
- Expand the Pro settings section.
- Find Password Protection.
- Create a password that you can store safely.
- Save the setting and test a protected action before relying on it.
Test the setup immediately. Confirm that the password prompt appears where expected, then verify that the password is stored somewhere safe before closing the settings page.
Use a Trusted Password Holder for Stronger Accountability
If you know that you will simply enter your own password when distracted, another person can create or retain it. This can support a study agreement, an accountability arrangement or a shared family setup without sending browsing history or rule contents to BlockDistraction servers.
Choose the trusted person carefully and agree in advance when the password may be used. A forgotten or unavailable password can prevent access to protected actions.
What Password Protection Does Not Do
BlockDistraction is a browser extension, not a device-management system. Password Protection does not lock the entire computer or phone, control separate mobile applications, or prevent someone with browser or operating-system access from disabling or uninstalling the extension.
This distinction matters for parental control and supervised-device use. Password Protection can make ordinary changes inside BlockDistraction harder, but it should not be presented as an unbreakable replacement for operating-system parental controls or managed-device policies.
Password Protection, Strict Mode and Hardcore Mode

These controls solve different problems. Password Protection protects settings over time. Hardcore Mode protects one focused period. Use the lightest control that reliably supports your routine.
Privacy and Password Storage
BlockDistraction does not send your password, blocked website addresses, rule contents or browsing history to its analytics service. Blocking and protected-setting checks are handled by the extension in the browser. Optional technical analytics are separate and disabled by default.
Common Questions
Can BlockDistraction recover a forgotten password?
No recovery promise should be assumed. Store the password safely, especially when another person controls it.
Does one password protect every device?
Password Protection is configured in the extension installation. Check and configure each browser or device where you need the same boundary.
Can it block mobile applications?
No. A browser extension controls supported web pages inside its browser. It does not control separate Android or desktop applications. Is it suitable for parental control?
It can add accountability inside the browser, but it is not a full parental-control or managed-device system because the extension itself can still be disabled or removed by someone with sufficient device access.

Start with free blocking rules, then add Password Protection when impulsive setting changes become the weak point.
